Gustara helps you log your meals and see your week, without the headache. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you have. We keep it short and plain, because your data should be easy to understand.
Who we are
Gustara is the data controller for the information described here. If you have any question about your data, write to us at privacy@gustaraapp.com.
We are based in the European Union, and your data is stored on servers in the EU.
What we collect
Account: your email address, used to sign you in (we send a one-time code, there is no password) and to contact you about your account.
Profile: a first name if you add one, and the body details you choose to enter (sex, birth date, height, weight) used only to estimate your calorie needs. You can leave these blank or remove them at any time.
Your meals: the photos you take, the descriptions you type, the barcodes you scan, and the estimated calories and macros for each. This is the heart of the app.
Coach: the questions you ask the AI coach and its replies.
Preferences: your language, units, and display settings.
Technical: basic information needed to run the app reliably (for example, error reports). We do not use advertising trackers, and the app contains no ad networks.
How AI is used
To estimate the calories and macros of a meal, and to power the coach, we send the relevant content (a meal photo, a typed description, or your question) to our AI providers, Google (Gemini) and OpenAI. They process it to return an estimate or a reply.
This only happens after you give explicit consent, the first time you use an AI feature. If you decline, AI features stay off and the rest of the app, including barcode scanning and manual logging, keeps working.
AI estimates are approximate, not exact, and are not medical advice. We never sell your data, and your meals are not used to target ads.
If you ever connect a health or fitness source (for example, Apple Health), those raw values never leave your device for any AI. Only general, on-device signals would ever be used.
Why we are allowed to use it
We process your data to provide the service you asked for (logging your meals and showing your week), and, for AI features, on the basis of the consent you give. You can withdraw that consent at any time in the app.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted providers to run Gustara: Supabase (our database and storage, in the EU), and Google and OpenAI (the AI estimates and coach, described above). They process your data only to provide their service to us.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account exists, so your week and your history are there when you open the app. When you delete your account, we erase your data, including your meal photos, permanently.
Your rights
You can access and download a copy of your data at any time, from Profile, with Download my data. It comes as a single, readable file.
You can delete your account at any time, from Profile, with Delete my account. This erases your data permanently and cannot be undone.
You can also correct your details, withdraw your AI consent, or change your preferences in the app. If you are in the EU, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. For anything else, write to privacy@gustaraapp.com.
Children
Gustara is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for important changes, let you know in the app.
